In 2006, Isaki Lacuesta filmed the Legend of Time shown at New Horizons - a fictionalized documentary about two Roma brothers who must grow up quickly after the tragic death of their father. In the moving drama compared to Boyhood, the director after 12 years returns to his characters to show how different their fate went. Israel, the younger of the siblings, is just getting out of prison. He wants to start all over again, but it's difficult to get a job in Andalusia, plagued by unemployment. He feels that apart from ashes, time off and rapid death, his hometown offers him nothing. From his descent to a criminal path, his older brother, Seaman Cheíto, tries to dissuade him. Awarded with the Golden Shell at the San Sebastián International Film Festival, Lacuesty is an element of opposites: intimate, focused on characters, their gestures and bodies, and at the same time predatory as Flamenco Paco de Luki (the title refers to his famous song) and epic in depicting over a dozen years of sibling's life . When sketching the social landscape of the poor South, the director avoids a patronizing tone, and captures the tenderness and respect with which he approaches the characters. From inconspicuous moments, he builds an authentic portrait of difficult brotherly love, which also becomes an image of masculinity in crisis, which is not keeping up with modern times.
